Media Literacy and Academic Literacy: Bridging the Gap

Joslyn Hunscher-Young currently serves as Equity Lead, Forum Leader, and Social Studies & Spanish Teacher at Ann Arbor Public Schools.

As an Emerging Leader Fellow at Research for Action from 2010-2011, Joslyn examined out-of-school media literacy activities with the goal of transferring relevant lessons to in-school academic literacy settings. Joslyn has experience working with students in a variety of capacities, including as a Writing Associate and Learning for Life Coordinator at Swarthmore College, a Summer Program Director at Chester Voices for Change, and a Camp Counselor at the YMCA in Ann Arbor, MI. Joslyn also taught history, geography, and English in the International Division of Shanghai High School in Shanghai, China.

Joslyn holds a BA in educational studies, sociology, and anthropology from Swarthmore College and an MA in educational studies from the University of Michigan.
