Founders

In 2006, John and Chara Haas established Stoneleigh Foundation as the latest chapter in their lifelong commitment to philanthropic activity.

While their humanitarian interests have been far reaching, John and Chara Haas always maintained a particular interest in helping vulnerable children and youth become successful, productive adults. In establishing Stoneleigh Foundation, John and Chara made a continuing commitment to one of their strongest interests: improving the life chances of some of our most vulnerable citizens.

John Haas credited his parents as the source of his strong commitment to the "family values of integrity and respect for the individual, as well as a sense of fairness, which include[s] the opposition to inequity and discrimination against the less fortunate." Chara, he said, had a tremendous influence on his lifetime development and first introduced the idea of devoting their personal estate to help children and families.

Stoneleigh Foundation is named for the Haas home in Villanova, Pennsylvania.

Stoneleigh Foundation was profiled in Giving Stories, a series developed by the Delaware Valley Grantmakers in 2010.  Read the Stoneleigh Story here.
